PPS is one of the flame retardant fiber varieties. Because of its high breaking strength, low moisture regain, high temperature resistance, and high limiting oxygen index, it has become the first choice for industrial filter fabrics. It is particularly prominent in the fields of environmental protection, chemical filtration and military. For example, it can be used in high temperature bag dust removal in thermal power plants, waste incinerator filtration, cement plant filter bags, electrical insulation materials, flame retardant materials, composite materials and other fields. In addition, it can also be used as canvas for dryers, sewing thread, various protective cloths, heat-resistant clothing, electrical insulation materials, electrolytic diaphragms and friction plates (for brakes), etc. According to different uses, it can be divided into staple fiber and filament products. In recent years, many enterprises in our country have actively developed and applied it, and initially formed a certain production capacity, changing the previous situation of completely relying on imports.
It is understood that in recent years, my country's PPS production capacity has been further expanded, and the field of use has been continuously expanded. In addition to being used in engineering plastics, the use of fiber-grade PPS is increasing year by year. At present, my country's PPS resin production capacity has reached 36,000 tons, fiber production capacity has reached about 20,000 tons, and the output is 3,000-4,000 tons. Every year, the global consumption of polyphenylene sulfide is about 8,000 tons, while my country's consumption of it is about 5,000-5,500 tons, and it has become the main user of polyphenylene sulfide. At present, my country's fiber-grade polyphenylene sulfide polymerization and spinning industrialization complete sets of technology and equipment have made major breakthroughs, reaching the international advanced level and successfully replacing imports.
